Geriatric Massage Therapy Geriatric massage therapy uses a gentle and light application of massage techniques, and is designed to meet the specific needs of the senior population. The technique may include passive stretching. A light lotion or oil may be used to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing uncomfortable friction.
These massage techniques can combat depression and anxiety, enhance blood circulation, improve flexibility and balance, relieve arthritis pain, improve posture, increase mobility casusing an overall increase in well-being.
Those with specific acute or chronic conditions should get permission from their physician before scheduling your massage. Once you have obtained permission, be sure to specify your preference for a geriatric massage when scheduling your appointment.
You should be as comfortable as possible during your session. Some clients are more comfortable having a friend or family member join them for their first visit. You decide what amount of clothing you’re comfortable wearing during your massage. Throughout the session, you will be appropriately draped or covered. Only the specific area receiving attention on will be exposed.
